Engineering tool

Plate list processor

Paste a plate list from Excel. For every line the tool works out the minimum steel grade under IACS UR S6, the nominal thickness to order under UR W13 and the weight, then adds the lines up into a purchase list you can download or send as an enquiry.

Plate list

Paste rows from Excel or a CSV file, with a header row. Columns can be in any order; the column names are listed below.

This is an example list, not your data. Replace it or clear it.

Columns and accepted values

The first row must be the header. Thickness, width, length and quantity are required; the other columns are optional. English and Chinese header names both work.

Mark:
Your part or plate number. Optional.
Member:
UR S6 member category, such as C1 or B2. Leave blank if you give the grade.
Zone:
0.4L, 0.4-0.6L or >0.6L along the ship. Blank means 0.4L, the strictest case.
Strength:
MS, 32, 36 or 40. Blank uses the default above.
Grade:
A steel grade such as B or AH36. Used as given, and checked against UR S6 if a member is also given.
Thickness:
Drawing thickness in mm. Required, unless you give the net thickness instead.
Width:
Width in mm. Required.
Length:
Length in mm. Required.
Qty:
Whole number of plates. Required.
Cargo:
Yes if the member is inside the cargo region (needed for C4 and C5).
Ice:
Yes for ice-strengthened shell plating.
Exposed:
Yes for plates exposed to low air temperature (S6.2). Needs the design temperature above.
Net:
Net thickness in mm, for rules that work in net thickness (such as CSR). The drawing thickness is worked out as net + corrosion addition + voluntary addition, rounded up to the ordering step.
Corrosion:
Corrosion addition in mm, taken from the rule edition that applies to your ship. It is not built into this tool.
Voluntary:
Voluntary addition in mm, if you use one. Optional.

Grade rules: IACS UR S6, using the drawing thickness, entered directly or worked out from net thickness plus additions. Order thickness: IACS UR W13 minus tolerance of 0.3 mm, rounded up to the ordering step. Weight at 7.85 t/m³. A grade you enter always wins, and a grade below the UR S6 minimum is flagged, not changed.

What this tool covers

Everything the grade assignment sheet and the order thickness calculator do, applied to a whole list: UR S6 Rev.9 Corr.2 member classes and grades for ships of 90 m and above, and the UR W13 minus tolerance with rounding to the ordering step. Up to 500 lines at a time.

What it does not cover

The same limits as those two tools: CSR bulk carriers and oil tankers, membrane LNG carriers, plates over 50 mm for UR S6, and a class society's own stricter rules. It does not nest parts or estimate scrap, and the weight is for whole plates as listed. Corrosion additions are not built in: you enter them from your rule edition.

Questions about the list

Which thickness is used to work out the grade?
The thickness you enter, which is the drawing thickness. UR S6 sorts plates by the thickness on the drawing, so the order thickness, which is a little higher because of the W13 tolerance, is not used for the grade.
What if I give both a grade and a member category?
Your grade is used. If it is below the UR S6 minimum for that member, the line is marked as an error and the grade stays as you typed it, so you decide what to do.
How are identical plates combined?
Lines with the same grade, order thickness, width and length are added together in the purchase list, so ten lines of the same plate become one line with the total quantity and weight.
How are net thickness and corrosion addition handled?
If a line has a net thickness, the tool adds the corrosion addition and any voluntary addition you give, rounds up to the ordering step to get the drawing thickness, and then applies the UR W13 tolerance as usual. The corrosion addition is yours to enter. It depends on the rule edition and the member, so it is not built in.
