How to choose
This isn't a strength decision — AH36 and DH36 have identical minimum yield and tensile range. It's a toughness decision set by the classification society's structural drawing, most often driven by plate thickness and the vessel's intended service area. AH36 is held as core stock at the mill; DH36 is rolled to order. If the drawing calls for DH36, build the mill's standard rolled-to-order lead time into your schedule rather than substituting AH36 to save time — the two grades aren't interchangeable once a class society has approved a design against one of them.
